EFFECTS ON THE CIRCULATORY and LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

Massage and the circulatory system

Massage changes the flow of the blood through the entire circulatory system by having blood in muscles pumped out faster due to massage movements. This also leads to the muscles taking up more oxygenated blood. Massage speeds up and enables more oxygen transfer due to faster rate of blood flow. It helps to eliminate toxins as the blood does not stagnate, and elimination and nutrition are at their peak. The amount of work the heart has to do lessens as venous return is helped through the movement of muscles.

When circulation increases so does the blood making process. This results in an increase in the amount of red and white blood cells being produced by the body. The pressure that massages produces on the walls of the blood vessels not only propels the blood, but also tones muscular walls of particular blood vessels.
